Starboard appoints new GM to Lake District hotel
With over three decades of experience in the hospitality world, this latest move brings Gareth Houghton back to Cumbria, a region he knows well, having previously worked as a manager at the Sharrow Bay hotel in neighbouring Ullswater
Starboard Hotels has announced the appointment of Gareth Houghton as the new general manager of Lake District hotel, The Windermere Manor Hotel.
Set in landscaped grounds, The Windermere Manor Hotel is a 35-bedroom country house hotel owned and managed by Starboard Hotels, the independent hospitality businesses with a portfolio of 21 hotels including brands such as Accor, IHG, Hampton by Hiton, Best Western and Days Inn.
With over three decades of experience in the hospitality world, this latest move brings Houghton back to Cumbria, a region he knows well, having previously worked as a manager at the Sharrow Bay hotel in neighbouring Ullswater.
He later moved on to roles at other hotels and restaurants across the country and overseas, including a more recent position at Northcote in Lancashire.
He said: “The moment I stepped through the beautiful timber doors of the Windermere Manor, I knew this was the place for me. It is a stunning property, oozing with charm and character befitting its location close to Lake Windermere and the Lakeland village of Bowness.
“I just love it here. It is such a special place to welcome guests to and make their stay with us a special experience. And I have to say it is really refreshing to work for such a supportive company as Starboard. It is wonderful to be part of such a friendly and welcoming team.”
